Municipal Stadium

After leaving Philadelphia, the Athletics spent 13 seasons at Municipal Stadium in Kansas City. On the field these were lean years, the club never finished higher than sixth, but off it, the seeds of a dynasty were being planted.

Under owner Charlie O. Finley, who bought the team in 1960, Kansas City became known for wild promotions (a mechanical rabbit that delivered baseballs to the umpire, a menagerie beyond the outfield fence) and, more importantly, for signing and developing the young players who would soon change everything: Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers, Bert Campaneris, and Sal Bando among them.

Finley moved the club to Oakland after the 1967 season. That core, grown in Kansas City, would win three straight World Series titles on the West Coast within a few years.
